1951, Locke just missing the US Open, won that year by Hogan at Oakland Hills, the Michigan Monster. Locke blew one of the closing holes and finished third behind Hogan and Clayton Heafner, shown here on the right. Gary Player, 21 years later, would win the PGA Championship here with a great high, 150-yard 9-iron from soggy rough over a towering tree to 4 feet.
