of Europe's
2005 Teaching Conference Wows Pros
September 29 -- October 1,
2005
Munich, Germany
Putting guru
Geoff Mangum of Greensboro NC was a big hit at the European PGA's
2005 Teaching and Coaching Conference in Munich, Germany, last week.
The title of his lecture: "Welcome to the 21st Century: The Brain-based
Model for Putting and the Retooling of Golf Instruction." The list
of speakers at the PGA of Europe's 7th Teaching & Coaching Conference
in Munich on September 29 to October 1 2005 was one of the most
distinguished ever assembled in Europe. Mangum was joined by golf
technical guru Frank Thomas, Tiger Woods' swing coach Hank Haney,
Justin Leonard's early coach from Dallas Randy Smith, England's
tour coach Scott Cranfield, BBC golf analyst and writer Beverly
Lewis (the first female captain of the UK PGA), Nick Faldo's former
caddie Fanny Sunneson (now coaching in Sweden), biomechanics guru
Dr Ralph Mann, Science and Motion's Dr. Christian Marquardt, and
others.
After his lecture,
pros from around the world stopped Mangum in the hallway for hours
with enthusiastic follow-up questions. His presentation was praised
by Hank Haney, Randy Smith, Stefan Quirmbach (President of the PGA
of Germany), Beverly Lewis, Dr Ralph Mann, and many others, as both
very creative and innovative. Reiner Mundt, the coach for the German
National Golf Team, described Mangum's lecture as the most creative
and exciting techniques for putting he had encountered.

Mangum is currently
establishing PuttingZone Academies in affiliation with top PGA teachers
in Major European cities. The first two schools were established
just before the Munich Conference Ð in Huddersfield, Yorkshire in
the UK with John Eyre and in Hamburg, Germany with Andy Taylor.
In conjunction with his trip to Munich, Mangum taught the top European
junior players at Gut Waldorf GC in Hamburg, the brother-sister
pair Ben and Florentyna Parker. Their father Tim Parker, head pro
at Gut Waldorf, had experienced Mangum's teaching earlier and brought
him back to teach his children. Parker described Mangum's teaching
as ÒAbsolutely fantastic stuff Ð completely different from anything
I have ever heard about putting but amazingly simple and effective.Ó
During the Munich Conference, Mangum met with pros from Spain, the
Netherlands, Belgium, France, Turkey, Ireland, South Africa, and
Australia interested in establishing PuttingZone Academies and working
exclusively with Mangum for this part of the game. Mangum will be
returning to Hamburg at the end of October to train other pros and
to conduct exclusive teaching sessions for top European players.
Later this year, he will be working with Randy Smith in Dallas and
also with Chuck Cook and his staff at Barton Creek GC in Austin,
Texas.
