PZ Star Jason Moon
Drops a Bomb
for the Tarheel Tour Win --

Gas Money for Q-School

STANLEY, N.C. Ð Australia's Jason Moon dropped a 35-foot birdie bomb on the first playoff hole to beat Columbia's Scott Feaster and win the 2005 Cowans Ford Classic on the Tarheel Tour. Moon, who tasted victory last month at the Olde Sycamore Open, claimed his second win of the year on the 16th hole, which served as the first playoff hole. Moon's putt was one that players usually hope to two putt, but the NC State alum had his putter in the air with 6 feet to go as it curled in to put all the pressure on Feaster. Feaster's 15-foot birdie putt caught the right edge of the hole and spun out to end the drama.

ÒI missed a couple of three footers during the round, but I was able to put those behind me and stay positive all day,Ó said Moon, who is predicting a victory for his NC State football team tonight against Clemson. ÒI looked at the scoreboard a few times and knew that I was in contention, but with some birdie holes on the back nine, you can't assume that the field will come back to you.Ó ÒThis gives me a lot of confidence heading down to Florence, SC for the first stage of PGA Tour Qualifying School,Ó said Moon, who will tee it up against the best in hopes of playing on TV in 2006.

Feaster, a Columbia native and diehard Gamecocks fan, took advantage of perfect conditions on Thursday and fired the low final round with a 65. His round was highlighted by birdies on holes 3-6 and an eagle at the dangerous 15th. Aaron Black of Australia and Chris Mundorf of Greensboro shared third place at 13-under par. The charismatic Black nearly joined the playoff himself on 18, but his birdie chip slid by the hole on the last turn, much to his disbelief. Mundorf, the 18 and 36-hole leader, was in the hunt on the back nine despite a double bogey at the 8th. His chances faded away as birdie putts failed to find the hole coming down the stretch.

Moon began working with putting coach Geoff Mangum in May 2005 at the Wachovia Championship in Charlotte. After his Cowans Ford victory, Moon contacted Mangum for a brief touch-up session to correct his difficulties with the missed short putts. Mangum and Moon worked at the Country Club of Whispering Pines in advance of Moon's try in the PGA Tour Q-School first stage at Florence, SC. Moon advanced to the second stage with a T6 finish, and now heads to McKinney, Texas for the second stage competition beginning Novenber 9, 2005.
