2002 Masters 18-hole Summary

BEST STRONG AVERAGE WEAK WORST

DiMarco, Kuchar, and Watson are the only three players of the 26 ranked as STRONG who do not average over 280 yards per drive. This suggests that anyone averaging less than 280 is unlikely to win.

This Masters should prove to be a question of which Big Gun player can putt and keep bogeys off the card. Cabrera, Els, Parnevik, Olazabal, and Toms of this group are putting the best, but any player in this group with under 29 putts looks very strong: Clarke, DiMarco, Garcia, Harrington, Jimenez, Langer, Leonard, Lyle, McGinley, Mickelson, Price, Singh, Watson, and Woods.

Since it is highly unlikely that anyone can win with under 45 greens in regulation -- any player with under 10 GIRs in Round 1 is digging himself a hole. And because the more greens missed, the fewer total putts -- the strongest players have 11 or more GIRs AND total putts under 29: Cabrera, DiMarco, Garcia, Goosen, Harrington, Jimenez, Leonard, Mickelson, Price, Singh, Watson, Woods.
